Taking a Look at the History of Robotic Technology

Robotic technology can be found within hours, remote control vehicles, automobile computers, Aibo, factory robotic arms, self-guided rovers, service bots like ASIMO, robotic toys like AIBO or Robo-Raptor and CNC milling machines. Regarded as a “robot”, the specimen must be able to interact with their environment and do something physically. More recently, robots used in surgery, disaster recovery and firefighting.Historically, ancient people believed in the existence of a humanoid robot species. Greek god Hephaestus is deemed to have created mechanical servants to help him build the temple. Moreover, the Jews thought that the clay Golems can come to life and believe that the giant Norwegian clay can be awakened. In the 4th century BC, Greek mathematician Archytas of Tarentum proposed that he was a steam-powered bird is known as creating “the Pigeon”. In addition, Hero of Alexandria (10-70 AD) developed an automatic machine is supported by air and steam. In 1088, Su Song developed the first clock tower that was built using mechanical figurines and audible bells. In 1206, the first humanoid robot created by Al-Jazari, a Muslim inventor who wants to entertain the royal guests with automatic musicians that play on the boat in a lake. Al-Jazari is known for building everything from kitchen appliances and other amazing robot machine.

There are many different ways to think about robot technology. We want to look like an artificial human, or clear prototype utilities and bolts? Should they work in factories or in our own homes? They must think for themselves or can only be pre-programmed a simple task?

There are “soft robots” that the body and the flexible silicone actuators that behave almost like a human’s. There is a “robot swarms” that behave like bees or ants, which work together to find something, clean room or to explore a spy. “Haptic interface robots”, the user can interact with the virtual simulation environment. Engineers are always coming up with new designs and applications for robotic automation.

Robotic technologies continue to run. Early prototype using steam, water or air, while a new prototype robots use actuators, electric DC motors and air muscles. For robotics engineering studies, students who are interested can follow the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, which is the only school which holds a Bachelor of Science in Robotics Engineering offers.

Other schools have graduate programs based on the automation of robotics, including Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, UPENN and UCLA. To increase the initial interest in this area programs such as FIRST Robotics is designed to encourage students as young as six to see the math, science and technology for the hobby.
