It’s hard to start choosing this war. Apple was first in giving a personal computer between the two. But IBM is really the first model designed for the business. Hardware is not really the driving force between the two versions of personal computers, software. First with the operating system, then the application software. IBM people really do not care about home users, where as Apple is dedicated to that market. Software developers often work on both sides of the road and the official war. Some programmers develop applications for both parties, attached to the selected favorite. But the fight was back and forth, depending on the latest software and features. Then IBM made the decision to take a new operating system for IBM’s computer rather than writing their own. Give Gates and Microsoft.
Apples some progress in business, the now-famous 1984 Mac commercial for the first Macintosh computer with the heroes wearing red shorts and t-shirts with Apple’s Orwellian world to throw a sledgehammer at the pictures of relatives, suggesting implied representation of IBM PC. He soon picked up as the winner of the year ad for the Super Bowl.
And it started in two separate markets and demographics to define. The cool part is for Apple computers, boy business suit to go to the IBM PC. Lotus 123, the first spreadsheet software key that must be embraced by the industry exploded in the PC world.
Apples quickly lost ground, because the computer business that was bought by 100s instead of one at the time of the consumer. Plus, IBM has the great advantage of millions of terminals can be replaced by the PC. And PCs now have access to mainframe applications and data from a local PC application. But Apple goes after special areas such as video and music and quickly became the choice of a computer for entertainment and arts industries.
Then Windows 95 came out (there are previous versions, but they are a joke). Closely mimic many features of Apple’s OS in mice and windows for any application. Apples go nuts and lawsuits filed against Microsoft. However, it is a small detail that really brings out the entire graphical interface with mouse invented by Douglas Engelbart of the Augmentation Research Center, Stanford Research Institute and was patented in 1964.
Anyway, the war continues today with a different but similar graphical operating system and mentality. Apple and Microsoft is still going after the other with a vengeance and many followers of both parties are dedicated to say the least. So let’s try an impartial view of both PC and Mac personal computers.
This is not a personal opinion, I love both and think that each has strengths and weaknesses. No hate mail from both sides to please. Opposing viewpoints are welcome, but still emotional tirades to a minimum. I do repair computers for a living and working on both. I do a lot more PC repair I admit, but one of them is because a large number of units out there.
Apple / Mac Pros: Very little security, viruses, malware, etc. The operating system is easier to learn for beginners (not me, that the investigation by an independent laboratory). You do not have a MAC to reboot, and there is little or no startup problems you do. You can now use Windows on the Mac and any PC. Multitouch technology (the ability to stretch, pinch, rotate, etc.). Long active life, the other the last five years last forever.
Apple / Mac Cons: Pricey, most Apple products get a premium price. Not easy to upgrade, or a lot of options. IMac series is a combo unit screen / computer, so if it is damaged, you must replace both. Not so much software, the software much higher prices.
Windows PC Pros: low price, many options. Large selection of software, many special applications verticle. The media, especially the Tivo and similar services much more readily available. No ownership in a way that keeps out competition. Universally used. Games run better and more widely available.
Windows PC Cons: The main target for viruses and malware, many security problems. Learning curves of the operating system and software. Windows often can result in the deaths of both problems is compatible and open architecture. Many startup problems. Low levels of the hard problems of quality and high failure components.
Two recent developments have changed the landscape is something that Apple makes the Mac Mini that sells for less than $ 1,000 (far below depending on the configuration) and now also run Windows (as fast as many PC machines). These two factors bode well for the future of Apple.
And Microsoft released Windows 7 which has been long awaited, which is a version of Vista again two years ago. I have been playing with Windows 7 and the good news is that I see no OS compatibility issues a new version of Windows from the past.

Any new users or even inexperienced users in the market for a new computer, try both Macs and PCs. Making decisions based on experience and software features are available for their daily needs. Actually there is no right or wrong decision, but you must make based on what works for you.
